The Story Behind “The Little Fairy Finds Her Glow”

Tasneem Dairywala, blog, picture book, mother reading to daughter, children's illustration

My four-year-old daughter, Sarrah, is my biggest inspiration. She makes me laugh, love, and create every single day. That’s why I decided to write a children’s book, The Little Fairy Finds Her Glow, featuring a fairy named Sarrah who goes on a journey to find her glow. In this post, I want to share with you a little bit about Sarrah through an interview I did with her. Prepare for cuteness overload!

The Little Fairy Finds Her Glow

Sarrah, do you remember the name of the book mama wrote?

Uhhhhhh, yeah. The Li-uhl Faiwy Finds Her Glow.

Do you think you and the fairy have any similarities?

I like sparkly dresses. She doesn’t have a sparkly dress. But I like that she has my name. It’s pretty.

Did you learn anything from the book?

No. But I know where my glow is. It’s in my heart!

What are your favourite toys?

Dotty and giraffe. My toy giraffe is white. And the dots are gray. I like playing with beads. But sometimes I don’t. I like playing with kinetic sand. But sometimes I also don’t. My stuffies are my favourite.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

A flu shot doctor. No! I like being small. I just want to be a child.

What do you do when you’re sad?

I just lie down on my bed and close the door and turn off the lights.

What makes you happy?

When the sun is up.

Which books are your favourite?

The frozen one (of course), the Lola one and the brown crayon one. Some people be silly at the brown girl and she said, “not funny”! Oops I think my yogurt is getting watery so I have to eat it! Let me eat my yogurt now!

What about the fairy book?! Do you like my book???

Yeeeeahhhhhhh.

She completely ignored me after this! Despite the fact that she didn’t list my book as one of her favourites (rude), I loved doing this interview with her. I plan to heed her advice on remaining a child and focusing on the important things in life – flavoured yogurt and sunlight!

Writing this book was a labor of love for me. I hope it inspires you and your children to find your glow and spread it around.
